On Tuesday, May 5th, we’re asking our community to participate in Giving Tuesday Now, an emergency giving day to support the nonprofits in our region.
As many of you may or may not know, our work has been challenged by the current climate and the impact of COVID-19 on our community, region, and world. At PrideRock we heavily rely on our supporters to help us feed, shelter, and take care of the medical needs of our animals.
When we welcome a new resident, the cost of care can vary depending on the animal’s history. Was there a history of abuse? Malnourishment? Or are they lacking the proper medical care to keep the animal thriving?
Regardless, these costs to take care of our residents can add up. We prioritize the health and well-being of our residents and procedures such as an infected claw, dental cleaning, spay/neutering procedures, general checkups can sometimes hit $2,000 per visit.
And what about diet? A large percentage of our residents are tigers and lions and when you consider the amount of food a 700lb animal needs to thrive, it’s incredible to see the meal plan that we put together. For example, we feed our animals 10lbs pounds of food per day, 6 days a week which can cost around $120/per animal. That’s not even taking into account the additional meat that is donated.
During this pandemic, we’ve been able to hang in there and continue to take care of our residents, but now more than ever, we’re asking for your support on this emergency giving day, to help us continue our work, serving our residents and providing resources for our staff and volunteers to continue forging ahead.
Anything you can give on this upcoming Tuesday will make a huge difference to our team and animals that call PrideRock home.
