PrideRock Wildlife Refuge |
Damien was about 13 years old, he came to PrideRock on June 6th, 2000 from California with the 'Exxon girls' Mia, Kelly & Golden who are still with us.
Damien and the 'Exxon girls' were part of an educational program at Marine World Africa USA. After a 30 year run and a change in management, the park decided to do away with the animals and wanted them gone within two weeks...
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Ron Whitfield, the entire population survived. Ron & his wife Julie, moved the entire group of lions and tigers (37 in all) to their home in Suisun, California where they could permanently house 12 of them. After two years of searching, Ron found good homes for most of the rest. PrideRock, and Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge in Tyler, Texas agreed to help place "The Last 8". PrideRock took Damien and the 'Exxon girls'.
"And if I go, while you're still here... Know that I still live on, Vibrating to a different measure, Behind a thin veil that you cannot see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith. I will wait there for the time when we can soar together again, Both aware of each other. Until then, live your life to the fullest. And when you need me, just whisper my name in your heart, ...I will be there."
"Grief is so painfully real, regardless of its origin. The love of, and attachment to, an animal friend can equal that of human relationships. Likewise, the loss of an animal can be just as devastating." (Rev. Joel L. Morgan)
"I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain, not because I did not love you, but because I loved you too much to force you to stay."

Memories made in love can never be taken away!
"One day not long ago, a precious little dog we named Tinkerbell showed up at our house, probably a victim of yet another cruel human who no longer wanted her. She was a joy from the moment we saw her and quickly became a much loved member of our family. She was my constant shadow and companion when I was at home and everyone that met her loved her radiant personality. I asked her more than once if she dropped from heaven because she came at a time when there was lots of sadness around our house with the recent loss of our beloved wolf, Konee. Just as quickly as she appeared, she was tragically taken from us which was heartbreaking to say the least. We didn't even get the opportunity to get a picture of her. She enriched our lives greatly for the short time we had her and we miss her terribly. We will never forget little Tinkerbell and until we meet her and all the other beloved animals who have made PrideRock their home, we love you."
"For those who love dogs, it would be the worst form of a lie to call any place where dogs were banned "Paradise." Certainly no loving God would separate people from their canine friends for eternity." (Stanley Coren)
"The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love." (Hilary Stanton Zunin)
Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. (Roger Caras)
... what we have enjoyed, we can never lose ... all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
(Helen Keller)

It is not just that animals make the world more scenic or picturesque. The lives of animals are woven into our very being - closer than our own breathing - and our soul will suffer when they are gone. Gary Kowalski, Author of The Souls of Animals (Rev. Joel L. Morgan)
