Carol's 1/12/10 blog
Well we're finally all well around PrideRock, except for my Tuni the old wolf girl. She is down and not eating again, so Gary gave her liquids, plasma and electrolytes sub que, which usually brings her around. He is also trying to lure her with fresh venison donated yesterday. Our friend and neighbor Ron Harris, came over to show Gary how to dress the poor girl. She was wild, had broken her front leg in 2 places and had to put out of her misery. The cats love venison and we haven't gotten much this year, so that was a welcome sight. We are all enjoying a break from the freezing, arctic weather and Nia has even broken the ice to get in her pool. It's amazing to watch the tigers play in the water in the winter time. Samantha is helping Gary feed tonight and went over early to clean all the pans from last night. Last night Gary was out until 3:30 a.m. getting everyone fed. I had to leave him after taking care of the wolves and dogs, since I had to get up and head to work early. He was washing the spices off of chicken since the cats don't do spices, and he didn't have any help so it was a long process. Everyone is enjoying all the meat we are getting from the "free meat program", including the wolves and dogs. It is quite a process though, trying to separate all the good from the bad. Sometimes there is lots of fatty meat that has to be thrown away. We recently had a dumpster brought out and we are filling it up to capacity every week. Thankfully, Gary has a couple of dependable, good guys that come out every week and help him go through usually 16 to 18 barrels of either meat trimmings or meat that has been pulled from the shelf due to an expired Sell by Date. | New Year for PrideRock |

The New Year is here and all is well at PrideRock. Gary and I were sick through Christmas and New Years, but all the animals have been taken care of and are healthy and happy. We have lost volunteers and gained new ones and our new meat program is in full swing which should help PrideRock finances considerably. Gary and a couple of helpers are working hard to make sure all the meat is good that is fed. We have gotten some great stuff including salmon, steaks, roast, brisket, hamburger and even a little poultry. With the variety, the cats seem to really like it and get something different each night. We have numerous projects in store for this year, some of which were on tab for last year, but we either ran out of money, or just didn’t have the time or people to do the job. Gary still doesn’t have a job, but we have high hopes for everything coming together in 2010! My resolution is make sure and blog more frequently so everyone will have a better idea about what is happening at PrideRock this year. Happy New Year and keep on chuffin ~~ Tags: volunteers | chuffing | winter | feeding | rescue | volunteer | inspire | priderock | intern contact Hits: 637 | Read more... |

WOW!! Already Monday and back at work. I envy Gary being at home, although someone has to make a living!
Christine is coming out on Wednesday to help us get the place cleaned up for our TV appearance. You can tell we haven't ever been on TV! All this excitement for perhaps 2-3 minutes.. :-) I will insist that she be on with us. She's one of our newer volunteers, but is doing such a great job.
The excitement fror me yesterday was finding the remains of what appeared to be a baby alligator. Normally, I never want to see remains of anything, but in this case, maybe it's OK. Apparently, my dogs drug it up from either our pond or the swamp next door. It leads me to believe there is a mama out there close with maybe more babies?? I'm not sure I want to get into alligator rescue.. :-)

Sadly, my precious Apache went to Rainbow Bridge in the early morning hours on June 19. It was a very sad time and we will miss him so much. I know his wish would be for us to make certain his companion Lakota will be loved and taken special care of. Losing these babies continues to be painful to the point of wanting to die with them, but fortunately I have so many left that love us and count on us to be there every day.

| A new pen for Rambo |

I can’t believe summer is almost here. The heat is on at PrideRock and the misters and swimming holes will be in place soon! We have had so much going on and thanks to our friends at GMAC, we have the money necessary to construct a new tiger pen to make room for our tiger, Rambo who has been with us since last fall. He is our largest tiger and has been in the smallest space since his rescue so he desperately needs a new enclosure.
