Meet the many big cats that call PrideRock home.
|
Meet CHEROKEE -- she was raised by a man in Zavala, Texas who was unable to take care of her, so he contacted us. She is a sweet, feisty little girl who dislikes women, but nonetheless, we have both grown to love very much.

FREDDIE COUGAR and KEISHA (lioness) were best of friends as cubs until she got big enough to beat up on him, then we had to move him to the cougar enclosure where he thought he was a big boy. Cayman allowed this for a little while, but not for long. Freddie still whistles, chirps and purrs but recently can be quite aloof. He shows his love on his terms and picks the place and time.

KEISHA is our little "tank" lioness. At the age of 2 months she was irresistible and came home with me when I went to pick-up Freddie. She has grown into quite a big girl and is now joining Gabe in his bellowing roar, but she has a way to go to get as low as him. That doesn't stop her though, even Simba and Nala had to practice a while before they got it right.

GABRIEL, aka Gabe, Big Sugar, and Big Boy, is the leader of the Pride. As a cub, he slept with us and wouldn't go to sleep without his pacifier (usually Carol's finger). We finally had to move him out into his enclosure when, at about 175 lbs., he started moving furniture to suit his taste. Gabe looks over the place, and is generally in charge when we have to be away from PrideRock. I can't think of anyone I'd rather leave in charge. He's a peacemaker and generally lets everyone know when there's something wrong or not to his liking. His bellows have been reported to have been heard over 2 miles away, and when he gets to chanting, the windows and glass rattle a little in the house.

SOPHIA, a.k.a. Miss Sophie, is without a doubt the beauty Queen of the bunch, and she knows it. She should, I tell her every day. Miss Sophie is turning into a real dream, she loves to be scratched and have her neck hugged. Caring for her is a pure joy, she eats her meal but always leaves just enough so that I'll bring the remains to her and hand feed her. She loves it, then she always gives chuffs with sugar. This girl is sweet and beautiful.
 |
SINBAD, who Carol calls her "Angel" from above, has given us lots of smiles and loving "chuffs." A finer, more loving young tiger could not have been found. Sinbad will be our constant reminder that from every tragedy, some good may come. He certainly has turned out to be a bright spot in what was a very sad 1998.

SHEALEE MARIAH is probably the sweetest, most affectionate and well mannered tigress you will ever see. She is a Bengal/Siberian whose prior owner, for personal reasons, had to find a loving home quickly. Since the owner had heard about PrideRock, we were fortunate enough to have received the call. Shealee settled in quickly and soon felt at home enough to rub noses and chuff at everyone around. Here is a picture of her smiling for you. We all love her too!!

MIA, formerly known as Queen, came to PrideRock on January 10, 1999. She was donated to PrideRock after an attack on her prior owner. She appeared to be around 5-6 years old at the time and a mother on at least two occasions. Despite her reputation and past problems she has settled in quite nicely with the other occupants of PrideRock and her care takers.

Mia also delivered three of the finest cubs that you would ever want to see. They were born on April 22, 1999. NO, she was NOT bred at PrideRock (as we do not allow our animals to breed). Little did we know how special her placement was with us as it also included another three lions. Check them out, they are next. Too cute for words. JAKE, ALLIE AND RUBY are Mia's surprises. A year old on April 22, 2000, they are known around here as the "Three Little Pigs." They spend most of their time sleeping on their table or culvert, waiting for feeding time.
